Pembroke Pines, Florida (www.vascularinterventional.com) September 8, 2008 – Jonathan Schwartz R.T.(R) (VI) has written and published a new Vascular Interventional Radiography Text Book and ARRT Registry Examination Review Book available on Amazon.com/books ISBN 978-1438221830.
December 2002 the ARRT the governing licensing body in the U.S. for registration of imaging professionals decided to split Cardiovascular Interventional Radiography into two specialties. They began a new specialty named Vascular Interventional Radiography (VI). Of all the sub specialties in Radiology, the V.I. exam has proven to be the hardest of them all.
Since January 2003 to this date world wide only some 640 plus V.I. professionals have sat for and passed this exam. A passing score for this exam is 75% with an average passing grade obtained of 78%. Without the availability of adequate study materials until now this has been the dilemma.
There are only some “2” locations in the U.S. to learn and train in an established program teaching future V.I. Radiographers. 99% of those currently practicing V.I. Radiography have trained and/or will be trained in an on the job program offered to those Radiographers who have experience in general Radiography and wish to train in this educational arrangement.
Jonathan Schwartz R.T.(R) (VI) has been a practicing Radiographer since 1976, and has been practicing as a Special Procedures/Vascular Interventional Radiography for 7 years. He developed a syllabus called Vascular Interventional Radiography A to Z and teaches this course at Broward Community College, Davie Florida.
The last printed material which was geared to Cardiovascular Interventional Radiography has been out of print for at least 9 years. There are at least 15,000 professional performing Special Procedures/Vascular Interventional Radiography who have not sat for the registry exam and have had no available text book or exam review material until now!
